PBPC Family,

Thank you to everyone who stayed on Sunday to participate in our Mission Possible game. For those who missed it, we spent a little over an hour developing creative solutions to tackle complex social issues, particularly homelessness and increased polarization. Mission Possible simulates design thinking, a process that clarifies problems, assesses resources, and utilizes community involvement to generate solutions. This process is iterative; once a solution is identified, it is not set in stone. The goal is to experiment and measure whether this prospective solution is actually making a difference.

This is what we've been doing as a church the last few years and what our Good Futures team is doing. In my first year here at PBPC, we hosted a Day of Discernment in which we clarified our sense of mission and ways we could engage those outside the walls of our church. We then experimented - we hosted a Christmas tree lighting event and we held a rummage sale to benefit City Team, to name a few. We learned a lot from these experiments.

We are entering another season in our church life where we will conduct more experiments. We are looking for ways we can use our resources - building, money, people power - to meet real and complex needs in our community. We don't expect to change the world in all this (that's God's work!). But we hope to be a faithful expression of Christ's presence in this world. My hope is that we will follow Jesus in word AND deed. So we experiment.

The Mission Possible game gave us all a glimpse of what this process can look like. I hope that for those who participated, it gave you a sense of possibility - God can use us and whatever we have for the sake of Christ's Kingdom! Let us continue to walk forward with this hope.

Looking forward to worshipping with you on Sunday!

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Calvin
