PBPC Announcements

PBPC Family, We are in the last days of finalizing our new lease with Pacific Boychoir Academy and praying that this new tenancy will be a blessing to us and to them. One of the (many) changes that will occur is a new Sunday Schedule. We were able to work out a schedule that will allow all three congregations to worship and fellowship at PBPC on Sunday. To make it work, it means we will have "transition time" when one congregation is finishing their worship and the next is arriving to begin theirs. Though this will be an adjustment, I hope it will allow us to build bonds of friendship between our congregations. Here is the new schedule, which will begin August 11. When it begins, I invite you to make a new friend if you can - let's extend a warm welcome to Chabod Church when we see them in passing! PBPC Family, Thus far in the Book of Samuel, we have witnessed the high points of David's life. There is David, minding the sheep then suddenly summoned and anointed as Israel's future King. His life, changed in an instant. There is David, visiting Israel's troops as they cower in fear before Goliath and David trusts God to deliver the victory. In the wilderness, David spares Saul's life and receives a blessing from him. David dances before the ark of God as it enters Jerusalem. God's promise to David that he will always have a descendant on the throne. But David's life is not all moments of glory; it is equally tragic. On Sunday, we will read of David's sin that spirals out of control. In a single moment, David turns away from obedience to God's ways and takes: he takes Bathsheba against her will, he takes advantage of his power, he takes control of the military to cover his tracks, he takes Uriah's life.  David's manic descent into sin is equal...

PBPC Family, At the beginning of the year, Session set priorities for our congregational life for the year. One of those priorities is prayer - praying together, exploring new prayer practices, partnering with other churches in prayer. I have felt increasingly burdened to pray for our church, our city, and our world. We have an exciting opportunity with our new tenants and lots of details that require attention and wisdom. The City of Oakland has seen a significant rise in crime and there is much work still to be done in our city and its government. In our country, we witnessed an assassination attempt on former President Trump. In our world, war continues to rage on in Ukraine, Gaza, Myanmar, and many other places that don't make the daily news. I invite you to stop reading this email and take some time to pray over these things, and anything else that comes to mind. With so much going on in the world, it is easy to feel helpless and overwhelmed - I know I do! Let us remember that...

PBPC Family, I sent an email out last week with this announcement but wanted to provide it again in case it got lost in your inbox. Things are moving along quickly in our negotiations with a new tenant and we need to begin cleaning out rooms. The biggest rooms that need to be cleaned are the Worship Closet (across from the Kitchenette), Church Library, and Iona. If you would like to come peruse our books and take some for your own library, please stop by during business hours (Mon-Thu, 9am-2pm). If there is anything in those rooms that you have strong feelings about and believe the church should keep, please let me know by Monday July 15. If you know of a home or organization in need of tables, chairs, bookshelves, or well loved couches, please pass this email onto them.
