PBPC Family,

I hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July and celebrating the 250 years since our country's founding.

Christianity Today's most recent magazine publication had a number of articles reflecting on our current moment in the American experiment. I commend the entire magazine to you - if you want to look through it I'll have it in my office when I return from vacation.

I especially appreciated Justin Giboney's article. He beautifully calls the church to seek the good of others, both in this country and beyond, and to avoid getting caught up in political conflicts and culture issues. He reminds us that the church's call is to "love, construct and redeem the city of man."

I also enjoyed reading an article from Carl F. H. Henry reflecting on the bicentennial in 1976. It is fascinating to see that our current moment is not new or novel; in fact many of the issues we face today were hot button issues in the mid 1970's. Carl Henry's words of wisdom are as relevant today as they were 50 years ago.

Let us pray for our country, for those in position of leadership, authority, and governance, and for the church, that we may continue to witness to the Kingdom of Christ redeeming and renewing this world.
