PBPC Family,

As we begin our series on the Psalms, here are a few resources for those who'd like a deeper engagement.

  • Answering God: The Psalms as Tools for Prayer by Eugene Peterson. This is a beautifully written book that explores the Psalms as a the primary "technology" that trains us for the practice and discipline of prayer.
  • David's Crown by Malcolm Guite. Malcolm wrote a sonnet for each of the 150 Psalms. Taken together, the entire book is a corona - the last line of each sonnet is the beginning of the next. It is a wonderful devotional companion to reading the Psalms.
  • EveryPsalm by Poor Bishop Hooper. Poor Bishop Hooper is a husband and wife musical duo. From January 2020 to November 2022 they wrote a song each week for each Psalm. The songs are meditative and were written to help listeners engage Scripture more deeply. All the songs are free on their website.

PBPC Landscaping Presentation - August 2
PBPC is partnering with Bee Highway to transform our landscaping into a garden for California native plants. This will both beautify our neighborhood and create a "pollinator highway" along Park Blvd. Stick around after service on Sunday August 2 to hear a presentation on the plans and how you can help!

Project Peace Day of Service - August 8
Project Peace's next Day of Service is scheduled for Saturday, August 8 from 9am-12pm. They still have plenty of spots available at City Team's Men Shelter and Turning Point. For more information and to register for a site, check out their website.

Open and Unafraid: Psalm Book Study
In August, we will begin a new sermon series on the Psalms. In conjunction, we will read David Taylor's book Open and Unafraid. Pick up a free copy on Sunday. We will begin the book study on August 9.

Food Pantry - August 12
We will distribute food to the community on Wednesday, August 12 from 5-6pm. Please come at 4:30 to help pack bags.
