8.8.2023 PBPC Family Bulletin

PBPC Family,

Yesterday was the first day of school for the Oakland School District. The end of summer has arrived and students, teachers, and administrators are back on campus, launching another academic year. This is a season of significant transition for many - some are starting school for the first time, others are entering into their final year of classes. Some teachers are beginning new jobs having never taught a class before. Others may be commencing their final year of teaching, with retirement just around the corner. This is also a difficult beginning to schools in OUSD - they are still in need of 40 teachers to fill vacancies in their classrooms. This means that some students are beginning their academic year without a permanent teacher, with no idea who will be stewarding their education.

I invite you to be in prayer for the beginning of this school year. Pray for students, teachers, administrators, custodians, gardeners, cafeteria workers, substitute teachers, coaches, and all the individuals who are connected to the important work of teaching and caring for our children.

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Calvin

Attending the class does not mean you are committed to becoming a member - it is an opportunity for exploration and discernment. Lunch will be provided - please RSVP by August 23 to pastor@pbpc.org so we can get a headcount for materials and food.
