1.30.2024 PBPC Family Bulletin
PBPC Family,
As Kenzie and I approach the arrival of baby girl, I plan to take family leave through Easter. While I am gone, Rick Leong will lead worship, preach, and provide pastoral support. I have known Rick for a number of years - his daughter was in my youth group when I was at First Pres Berkeley. Rick has been pursuing ordination with the PC(USA) and brings a depth of wisdom and gentle faith to his ministry. I am so grateful that he is agreed to serve at PBPC while I am on leave. Below is an short letter from Rick.
Greetings Park Blvd Presbyterian Church!
It is an honor to be able to be with you as we journey through the Lenten season together! I am an Oakland native - a product of the Oakland public schools and the Chinese Presbyterian Church in Oakland Chinatown. I am married to my high school sweetheart Kathy (35 years) and we have two young adult daughters, Noelle and Hope. My professional background is in natural resources (retired after 31 years working at the East Bay Municipal Utility District - EBMUD). I returned to school in 2010 in response to God's call to ministry and am a Candidate for Ministry under the care of the Presbytery of San Francisco. Jesus' modeling of love and compassion, forgiveness and reconciliation, and justice had led me into the ministry areas of chaplaincy and justice/equity. I look forward to being further transformed by the Holy Spirit and the PBPC faith community as we all continue to discover who God created us to be in this world.
Peace and Blessings,
Rick Leong
Rick will begin on February 11. He will work 20 hours/week for PBPC. His schedule will be Sundays, Mondays in the office from 9-2, and the rest of his time will be remote. His email is likeke.leong@gmail.com.
While I am on leave, I plan to still attend worship on Sundays with the two older kids. When I attend, please imagine I am a regular congregant who knows nothing about pastoral ministry :)
Again, I am so grateful for Rick's willingness to serve and I know you will be a blessing to one another.
Grace and Peace,
Pastor Calvin
