PBPC Family,

On Sunday, we will announce and provide Commitment Cards for Commitment Sunday on October 29. This is an opportunity for us to celebrate our God who is unconditionally committed to us by the power of the Spirit through Jesus Christ our Lord. In joyful response to God's commitment, we will make commitments of service and our finances.

When you stop and think about it, it is a bit strange that we make commitments for 2024. We don't know what the future will hold. We may have grand hopes that we can serve in the children's ministry, tutor a kid at Harbor House, or give away groceries at our monthly pantry. And without warning, our hopes can be dashed with a life changing diagnosis, loss of a loved one, or family crisis. We may plan to give a certain financial amount and without warning, lose our job and income. It may seem a bit reckless to make commitments like these.

When we make these commitments, they are not binding. They are intentions, hopes of what we'd like to do in the coming year. And even these commitments are a reminder that our lives are sustained by God's grace. The talents we use in serving are gifts from God. Our money, down to the last penny, is a gift from God. Our future, whatever it holds, is held and known by God. We live by faith and are sustained by grace.

Our Commitment Sunday, at face value, seems like it's about us - what WE will do or give for next year. But really, it's not about us. It's about God. It's always about God. Between now and October 29, I invite you to prayerfully consider - what commitments is God inviting me to make in 2024? And in worship on October 29, we will take all these commitments and give them back to their source - our loving, caring, and committed God.

Food Pantry: October 11 from 5-6pm
Our next food pantry is scheduled for October 11 from 5-6pm. Please arrive at 4:30pm to help set up. If you'd like to help, you can register HERE.

PBPC History: October 15
Chris Coon will guest preach and share a presentation on the history of PBPC on October 15. Following service, we will meet in the Iona room to share a meal together and hear Chris' presentation. Lunch is free of charge - just bring yourself!

Project Peace: Day of Service - October 28 from 9-12pm
Project Peace is hosting another Day of Service all around the Bay Area on October 28 from 9-12pm. If you'd like to register for a location, you can do so HERE.

Commitment Sunday - October 29
Join us for worship on October 29 as we celebrate God's loving commitment (or covenant) to us and we respond with our own commitments of service and financial pledges. Pledge cards will be available in service this Sunday. Please bring them to worship on October 29. If you cannot attend in person, you can DOWNLOAD and email it to Ginnie Daniel at accounting@pbpc.org.

Genesis Study - October 29

All Saint's Sunday - November 5
Traditionally, All Saint's Day is November 1, a day to remember and recognize individuals who played a role in our faith and who now rest in Christ's eternal embrace. These can be parents, relatives, theologians, or historical figures. On November 5, we will have a special service to honor and remember these saints. Please bring a picture, item or a story to share of someone who has shaped your Christian faith - these will be included in our time of worship.

Operation Shoebox - November 12
It's that time of year again - Operation Shoebox. We have a goal of building 50 boxes, either in person or online. More information and boxes will be available on October 22.
