2.4.2025 PBPC Family Bulletin

PBPC Family,

At our annual meeting two weeks ago, we shared 6 priorities that Session had set for 2025. I want to share each of those with you and give a short explanation of each one.

  • Generational Handoff

As our kids are getting older, how are we passing on the faith to them? In much of the research that's been done on the decline of churches in North America, one persistent finding has been the failure to hand off the faith to the next generation. We are blessed by our children and also want to give them a solid foundation and understanding of the Christian faith.

  • Kingdom Mindset + Partnership

We are not the only church in Oakland. As some pastor friends of mine often say, we want to see churches in Oakland move from competition to collaboration. We want to expand our awareness of other churches and the ways we can work together in loving and serving our neighborhood, Oakland, and the world.

  • Conversations about our Future

In finding a new tenant, we now have a (mostly) balanced budget. But our church is more than just income and expenses - God has done significant work here and we want to be faithful in discerning where God is leading us in the future. We want to talk about our future - where we're going, what challenges we may face, and how we want to navigate those together.

  • Spiritual Formation

The goal of the Christian life is to be formed into the image of Christ, a work that won't be completed until we die and enter into Christ's presence. Thus, there is always room for growth in Christ. We want to be more intentional about our collective practices of prayer, discipleship, and worship. We'll explore ways we can follow Jesus together.

  • Outreach

We are blessed to have been in the Glenview neighborhood for close to 100 years. We don't want to lose sight of God's call to all of us - to share the good news of new life in Christ. We hope to continue to explore ways we can connect with, serve, and love our neighbors.

  • Endowments

We have a couple of endowments that have sat unused for years. We hope to creatively and collectively find ways to disburse these funds so they can be given in a manner that honors the donors intended use and makes an impact for the kingdom.

If there are any that particularly excite you or you have ideas you'd like to share, please reach out! These are all things we hope to do together and as a member (or friend) of our congregation, your voice and presence matters. When God works in and through us, it happens through each one of us.

Looking forward to worshipping with you all on Sunday!

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Calvin
