PBPC Family, This is about a month late but I wanted to share with you all the link to our ecumenical Good Friday service. It was a joy to worship with other churches from around Oakland and to enter into a Good Friday service that celebrated Christ's victory over sin and death on the cross. I also appreciated experiencing a different style of worship and hearing from preachers from various backgrounds. It was a powerful service and I invite you to give it a watch. PBPC Family, This Sunday, we will look at one of the most beautiful passages on love. In this passage, we read the famous and oft quoted words - God is love. Preaching on passages that are so well known is difficult. What more can we say to add to John's words!  I've been reflecting this week on how difficult it is to define love. It is a word we use so often and yet definitions and explanations don't do justice to what love is. It's like trying to explain the beauty of a sunset or the scent of a rose - it is known much more fully in experience. So I invite you, as you prepare for worship this Sunday, to reflect on meaningful experiences of love. When have you felt deeply loved? When have you loved someone in deed and truth? What does love look like? What does it feel like? I hope reflecting on our own experiences of love will help us know love, God's love, on a deeper level than thoughts and ideas. PBPC Family, Yesterday was Tax Day - hopefully you filed your taxes! It is a day that many dread and yet the preparation of taxes, keeping of books, managing finances is an important part of our life. Though we may not like paying taxes, we can give thanks for the many people who spend their days balancing accounts and preparing financial statements. Here is a prayer for bookkeepers an accountants. Divine Spirit Who Abides in Numbers, For the bookkeepers and accountants who diligently balance books, we give our gratitude.  For their tireless hours staring at screens and ledgers, we acknowledge their efforts. May this be a career of joy for them.  May they find bliss in the moments of calculating.  May they see that their work is needed to help our neighbors determine what may be next in their financial life. Allow them to rest their eyes when the days become long and the numbers do not balance.  Grant them patience when additional computations and reports are needed. For their talents ...
